so here my US stamp collection , I joined also the newspaper stamps , it are all fac-similés , but for me it is a nice collection .When I see the values ,from 1 cent to 60 dollars ,I do not understand there can be such a big difference : 60 dollars for a newspaper of a book in that time , I think it was a golden one .How to explain this ?
Greetings also to Peter : het is aangenaam iemand aan de andere kant van de wereld tegen te komen die dezelfde taal spreekt.Groetjes
Albert
sorry , I forgot the pictures.

Looks like a fantastic collection antwerpen - thanks for sharing. I'm sure the whole album is just as nice.

I know if that were mine, I would be very tempted to remove them, or at least certain countries and get them mounted nicely in a modern album. Probably harder to do if that one piece has been in the family for so long. Many of those stamps deserve a new home, protected

Great stuff!

You have a good selection of US stamps, Antwerpen2306. It is difficult to offer see the details in your photos. Could you post a better photograph of the second page of US stamps on your last post?

hi
mike33 , maybe you are right , maybe not , right because the collection will be better and nicer represented in a modern album , maybe not because you are losing something old, made 100 years ago and showing a manner of collecting stamps of that time .I do not think you can still buy an album for all the stamps of the world in one book . For myself,I am thinking to try to complete the colloction by buying on internet , ....
What is your opinion as collector since years ?
Brian ,I make my work of it,so the second page , do you think there is anything interresting.I try to take out the stamps and send the pics , maybe in the forum for US stamps ?
I hope I can still buy hinges, no?
Albert

Yes, you can still buy hinges if you are going to remount them in the album, very inexpensive.

In a previous post, I pointed out the challenges of removing stamps from an old album like this. As long as the stamps and album are stored poperly, and show no signs of deterioration, I think you should leave them as-is. Removing stamps that are mounted using homemade hinges is likely to damage both the stamps and the album! But that's just my opinion ...

I agree that they shouldn't be touched.

Albert- Welcome to the dark side! Already being a coin collector will make the transition somewhat easy to stamps and you have an amazing collection to start. Just from the few pics and description of the album I believe many members are drooling on there keyboards. There is very likely a substantial monetary value contained within but as you stated also a sentimental value that is probably more important.
Brian's advice not to remove anything is spot on, the damage caused may be unfixable . May I suggest (since scanning such a huge album would be impossible ) to look at borrowing or buying a decent quality digital camera and using the macro settings and direct light source to take as many pics as possible. Before you can really continue to add to this gem you really have to discern what you already have . For the most part you have a head start that some 20-50 year long collectors may not have acheived.
It will be a process but as you can see we are quite eager to see more and this forum has specialist for pretty well every page you may turn.

Hi,
You have a really special collection here - and I would love to own it. I do hope that you hold on to it and "get into the hobby", rather than sell it off. ENJOY !!
