No, this is a Barry Rectilinear machine cancel. The first machine cancels were in the 1870's (I think). |

The return address "C.D. Hine, Secretary" meant that he was the Secretary of the State Board of Education; and The addressee, J.A. Graves, was Principal of the South School in Hartford. |
