I found 6 mint stamps in a little paper folder that said
"Lundy Island" and something to the effect of 'the man
who would be king'... Is this a real place, or did someone
have stamps printed for their fantasy kingdom on this so
called 'Lundy Island'?

All 6 stamps are different denominations and all have birds
on them. They are hinged to this paper folder with some
words on it, I suppose telling the story of the stamps, but
the paper is very fragile and pretty much turning to dust
if you try to handle it. Therefore I mounted the entire
setup in a stamp sheet sized dealer stock card to preserve it.

Anyway, is this a novelty, or is it something special I should
take extra steps to conserve? Either way, it is special to
me as Dad would have collected it as a child...

Any info?
Thanks
Dave

If nothing else, I would guess they qualify as locals.

Do a search and check the Cinderella forum. There was some discussion there a few months back.

Okay. I see. I'll have to look at the set again.
I suppose it is a complete set of 1954 that they
mention in that article. Sounds like before that
there was only one stamp, not 6 different.

Yeah, I saw your post after I opened a thread
in the Cinderella forum. That is it. After
looking at the link posted by Wpg, it seems
the stamps in the display are not later stamps,
but actually the first 1929-1930 stamps. The
only original that is not in the set is the
half-puffin... Neat stuff. Thanks!

Those would be Lundy Fantasy Island Stamps Besides rattlesnake island post, those would be some of the most well known cinderellas.

I saw I believe 3 Rattlesnake Island locals at the last White Plains stamp show...perhaps I am cheap but I decided not to pay the 3 dollars asking price...it may be a fair price..i tend to price my cinderellas low..but the dealers at shows seem to usually want 5 to 10 dollars for labels and cinderellas which I do not HAVE TO have !

Just made an appointment for the head-examiner, but it was booked up 'till the end of April !
"Sorry Mr Bus" she said,
"There are just too many Cinderella collectors in your area"

But I can wait.

The market, Bob, is anyone who collects them. And they are out there.
I have sold Lundy, Rattlesnake Island, and less common fakes I can't
even remember the names of the places they came from. To these collectors
they are worth more than real stamps. And they pay accordingly.

Some people collect baseball cards and comic books too. And the market
is out there for them, also! While people were collecting stamps, these
were being thrown away until recently.
