Rotw Hotels

Postcard written on November 12, 1971 at "The Hilton Hotel - Beautifully situated, in its own 13 acre park" was sent to a friend or relative at the Hyde Park Hotel in NYC, USA.

Stamp is cancelled with a pictorial postmark showing the hotel. Cancel reads, "HILTON - OSMANBEY - INSTANBUL". Date is not legible.

Presently, there are 5 Hilton Hotels in Istanbul. One of them looks exactly like the hotel on the card. It is the Hilton Istanbul Bosporus. So, the structure was either renamed, or several were built in identical/very similar style and only one remains.

This postcard is a real photograph. It pictures the Hotel Waldhaus Vulpera under the impressive Piz Lischana Mountain in far eastern Switzerland. It was mailed by a female American mountain climber to a female friend staying at a hotel in Friedrichshafen, Germany, home of a historic Zeppelin hanger.

From Wikipedia, "The Neo-Renaissance style Grand Hotel Waldhaus Vulpera with Sgraffito-style elements was one of the first addresses of the Swiss Alps and was a major Belle Epoque monument in Europe. With its 270 beds it was the largest hotel in Scuol-Tarasp-Vulpera and was one of the most important new hotel buildings in the 19th century and is thus a piece of architectural history...On 27 May 1989 the hotel was destroyed by conflagration which seemed to be a case of arson...Grabuenden Insurance Company lists the following: Total loss Hotel Waldhaus, Amount of loss: 23 million Swiss francs."

Also shown is a cover sent from the Hotel on August 13, 1935.
