Hi all, I was just wondering what defines a Commonwealth stamp? how would I identify one compared to a commemorative? British stamps im talking about, Thankyou Turbo
"Commonwealth" and "commemorative" are not related in any way. The Commonwealth is a collection of countries - see wikipedia for info on this. A "commemorative" is distinct from a regular "definitive" issue and it recognizes some special social, cultural or historic event.
It is also important to note some countries eventually left or were forced out of the Commonwealth for various reasons. South Africa used to be a member of the British Commonwealth, but was not allowed to remain a member after 1961 when it became a republic and due to widespread opposition of apartheid. They were re-admitted to the Commonwealth in 1994 after apartheid ended.
