It may be a while before mobilman44 receives his album and can post some of those pages filled with stamps. To pass the time, and for those of you following this thread who haven't seen these vintage album pages, I thought that it might be helpful to share some page scans. If there is any nation whose pages you are curious to see circa 1940, let me know and I will be happy to post them. Here are the first three pages from the Modern Red for the USA. Cheers, Kevin |

How many pages in total for Canada? Wouldn't mind seeing the rest, if it is not too much of a bother. |

The rest of the Canada pages? I am happy to help, Tom Swift. The 1940 Modern Red had only four illustrated pages for Canada with 148 stamp spaces, and the next page following was blank. Presumably that gave the collector five pages for Canada stamps. Please note that the Canada pages do not include the stamps of Newfoundland or Nova Scotia, which had separate listings of their own. The stamps of the other pre-Confederation colonies of British Columbia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island were not listed in the Modern Red. I had posted the first three Canada pages above, so here is the remaining page 4: By comparison Jkjblue notes on his very informative website, Big Blue 1840-1940, that the Scott International had 10 pages for 212 stamp spaces dedicated to Canada. Hi, Well, the album arrived today, and I'm not sure if I overpaid or not - as that will take some time to go thru all the stamps. Hopefully I'll be needing a bunch.
The obvious good news is the stamps were put in with Dennison hinges and they peel off beautifully. The obvious so - so news is the album has stamps posted all over each page. That could be good or not, depending.
We will see............. |

Mobilman44: Show us some highlights of stamps from that album when you get a chance. Many here would be interested to see what you got! |

Me and photobucket are not on friendly terms...... I couldn't scan stamps as my printer was not "scanning compatible" with Windows 7. So, I finally ordered a new computer (HP employee/partner website) and it should allow me to scan, etc. The album's originator crammed stamps in the album, using any and all space. I have just glanced through it, and it appears that they are mostly all used, with none newer than the late 1940s, and includes cinderellas and some strips of stamps. My thought is to go thru it, pick what I need, clean it up, add to it from my duplicates, and put it back on ebay. If I can master the scan function, I will surely post some pics. And, I'll gather the handful of unknown stamps I have and post them as well. |

Even though the old "modern" stamp album is way past prime in collecting, it is still a good album to get the new kids interested for their collection. lots of space and if they don't care for the hobby, no real loss in startup cost. true, no places for new issues but it does have country divisions and thats all that counts in beginning. Get the kids into collecting instead of videogaming I say..*L* |

speaking of dennison, I wish I had more of these vintage hinges...the one found today are spelled dennisen and not dennison...apparently not the same. Hopefully my 2000 old originals last for the WW stuff in my books |

Hi, I'm working on pulling needed stamps for countries A-C. Surprisingly, I've found almost 100 for my 1840-1939 album and might find another 100 or so for the 1940s.
I am running up against two minor problems..... The Modern album has stamps all lumped together without year designation or in chronological order. Most of them are in order, but some are not. The other situation is the original owner put stamps everywhere on the country page. Ha, at least stamps for a particular country are on the right page.
When I'm done with it, the album will be neater and perhaps better organized, and as indicated, will make a nice album for the new worldwide collector. |

Well, I've finished culling what I need from the album. I got about 1000 stamps from it, most were ones I did not have, the remainder were better examples of what I did have. No stamps in the album were post 1949, and many were pre 1900. And, the owner obviously loved those stamp packets that used to be everywhere, for I think he/she had bought them all (not a bad thing).
Anyway, the jury is out, and the $120 I paid for the album (less whatever I get for future resale)was definitely worth it.
