I am not seeing his signature. This letter seems to be addressed to him from someone else? Can you point out his signature on it?

I will do so upon receipt, it is located on the letter within the cover. Hopefully no one out there is a infamous Millard Fillmore forger!

There are forgers of every President's signature. The less famous ones are just as forged as the more famous ones. Of course the more famous ones bring bigger money, but the less famous ones get much less scrutiny and can be easier to forge and to sell. I have an open mind on this and will wait until you post the closeup photo, but my antennae are quivering a bit both for the reason than all President's signatures are well forged, but also for the reaon that I cannot make much sense as to why he would have signed a letter that was sent to him rather than from him. I look forward to seeing the photos.

Nothing to see on this one, sorry. A case of false representation, and on ebay no less. <yuk, yuk...> Well, I bid on it as a cover so my $8 was not wasted even if all I received was a James Stevenson signature from Salem, NY! Auction description claimed "docketed by Millard Fillmore on front and reverse." If so, he used disappearing ink.

Even if it were docketed on the front it would be likely that it wasn't his signature anyway! Remember they are a President and usually very busy they had/have Secretary's sign stuff for them. So, even if it was a hand written signature by "Millard Fillmore" it was more likely to be a Secretary's signature.

True enough for a President, but this dates from his stint as New York State Comptroller, 4 months before he became VP, and before he assumed the Presidency. I would have been much more suspicious if it dated from when he was the President.
