Hi everyone,
I've just been browsing through the latest auction catalogue of Spink in Great Britain, and they have this absolutely stunning range of die proofs on offer which all come from the Bradbury Wilkinson archive.

Now the problem is that none of these have been attributed to a specific engraver. Quite a few do have die numbers though.

So I was wondering whether the Bradbury Wilkinson archive has already been researched and whether it is at all possible to attribute certain work to certain engravers.

I suspect the answer will be 'no', but then again, similar work has been done on the Waterlow & Sons archives and there is a little book researching the various die proofs and quite a few of these have been attributed to engravers.

Does anyone know or can maybe point me in the right direction? Hope so!

Hi AKP,

I possess just short of 100 worldwide articles about Bradbury Wilkinson, which is not going to be everything ever written about their stamp activities, but a good way towards it I guess. Not one of the articles goes into the names of engravers, nor do they indicate that Waterlow-type research has been undertaken by anyone, past or present.

I fear that allocation of engraver names to dies has simply not been recorded, sadly.

Thanks for that, Glenn, I feared it would be a hopeless case!
