Cursus just stated what I have been thinking. The stamp was probably soaked excessively while attached to a preprinted registered postal stationary.

Another thing worth noting is that the line is not perfectly vertical. Check the beginning location and compare to the ending location (by counting the perfs). You'll see that is slants downward to the left about 1 perf distance, again, confirming that it is probably pulled the line from the underlying envelope to which it was attached.

Glad you were able to find the watermark, TurboJay. A good old Multiple Crowns 3d Wilding stamp. I wish I'd known that before I missed out so much detail in my very first reply to your posting

Thankyou all for the help,
Partime, yes your correct 1 is on the 7th perf and the other is on the 8th, thankyou for the help too,
Scotzm, sorry I completely forgot to check the watermark on it, I was blown away thinking what on earth is that on my stamp, haha,
another question for Scotzm here: do any pre decimal stamps and decimal stamps from 1961 to 2000 ( UK Definitives ) have watermarks?
Turbo

GB definitive watermarks ended around 1967... then you had to wait until 2002 for another watermarked definitive.
