If you wet the whole of the upper part of a split back mount you not only risk getting moisture on the stamp, but the album leaf will get an unsightly buckling on the reverse as it dries out. Just moisten lightly along the top edge, wait a second and then stick the mount onto the paper.

I use the same approach with mounts as I do with hinges: use as little moisture as possible, but still get the job done.
