Can someone tell me how to find the # if you don't see it in Scott's? I see A19 for 20c and A20 for 70c. I can't find for 10+5c. TIA.

It is a BOB number,"semi postals" are put in the "back of the book" by Scott, the A19 A20 designations are not the catalog numbers, they are a type identifier. The Spanish Sahara numbers are #90 for the 20c and #91 for the 70c value. The 10+5c is #B48 or #B53 depending on the perfs.

This "BOB" is new to me. How do I find "BOB" for this Shahara Espanol country? In case I find other stamps that may be "BOB", I would know where to go (I hope). TIA.

Hello,

The A19 or A20 is usually the photo number but Not the catalog number in Scott's catalogue.

With the 10c + 5c denomination stamps, those are semi-postal charity stamps where the extra 5c is donated to a specific charity and so classified as non-postal use, where as the 10c is postal use.

They are listed under the B### numbers after the Spanish Sahara regular numbers, I would think. BOB is Back of Book, or stamp types non-postal, like special delivery, airmail, semi-postal, etcetera.

Also, without a catalog, you could look on ebay or Delcampe or other auction or sales sites until you confirm the catalogue number for the description of the stamp. Yakes longer sometimes but search for the animals or whatever is on the stamp perhaps. I like doing that.

Bob: "BOB," or Back of the Book, is a term given to any stamp that is not a regular postage stamp and was issued for another purpose. Examples for the USA include semi-postals, or charity stamps, like the 9-11 and breast cancer stamps. Others include air mail stamps that were issued when it was faster to send a letter by air rather than by train or truck. People paid extra to send a letter in that way.

Other BOB stamps include postage due stamps; registration stamps; and revenue stamps. Revenues are for payment of a specific fee of some kind; not for payment of postage. The most popular revenue stamps now in the USA are duck hunting and other wildlife specific stamps.

In the Scott catalog, regular postage stamps are listed first for each country. Then the BOB stamps are listed beginning with semi-postals; air mails; etc. As noted by Fred, semi-postals have a "B" prefix, as in B20. Air mails have a "C;" postage dues have a "J;" and so on. You can visit your local library and ask to see their copies of the Scott Postage Stamp catalog. All of these identifiers should be explained in the introductions to each volume. Hope this helps.

As I don't use Scott catalog, I can't say what of the three possible issues are refering you:

1957.- "Dia del Sello" (Stamp's day), hyenas.
1958.- "Pro Infancia" (For children), Cervantes & Don Quijote.
1959.- "Pro Infancia" (For children)Lope de Vega

Images from my 1996 Edifil Unificado Especializado, vol III. The values are stil in pesetas (166 pesetas = 1 €).

As you can see, all stamps of the same issue are listed together, regarless that they're "normal" or "semi-postal" (a term not used in W. Europe). This is the normal practice in most European catalogs.
