A while back I bought a stamp on ebay listed as a "number 1 or number 4" which gave me pause. It appeared to be a four margin stamp (barely on one side) in nice condition. For some reason, bidding stalled and I won the lot for about $25, thinking, if it's a #4 that's pretty good, and if it's a #1, well . . .When I received it, I was pretty sure it was on laid paper (a #1) so sent it off to the Vincent Graves Greene Foundation (my first experience with certification.) I was worried about the possibility of it being a fake, or altered in some way, e.g. rebacked or repaired. Today I received the certificate with those magic four words, "genuine in all respects." It goes to show that even in this fast-paced world there is still the chance of a find. Next I'm going for a #32 like watermark found . . . !

Hi Stray Feathers, I see I have some competition building. I just picked up four nice re-entries from a circuit book. I also look for bargains on ebay. I have found many nice stamps there that were not properly identified over the years. Good luck finding #32. I am watching for another one to show up.

How do you get access to circuit books?

Alberta Stamper, You will find a discussion on circuit books about three pages in on this link: https://goscf.com/t/36270 . I get mine from the American Philatelic Society Sales Division. There are other organizations and possibly private firms that may offer similar services.

Great find! I also have lucked out on ebay. Picked up a bluenose man on the mast 158iii used. The seller wasn't sure if it was real and didn't bother to certify. I offered him a pretty decent BIN price at my own risk. He declined my offer and went with auction. I ended up winning it a lot less than my BIN offer (yay!), paid the $40, and it is now certified as genuine. This completes two of three CDN errors I have been seeking. One to go! Thanks ebay!

And as you have experienced - worthwhile getting the cert! Good job on your find :)
