I cannot find any modern reference to the Whitney Crossings, NY post office. Is that what's called a dead post office (DPO).

Yes, but the correct term is "DISCONTINUED Post Office (or DPO, for short). According to Jim Forte's Postal History Website, the post office at Whitney Crossings, NY was in operation from 1894-1935.

Thanks wt1. Yea, Discontinued certainly sounds better than dead, and more official.

Just to add to this thread, here's the Postal Bulletin reference when the Whitney Crossings (NY) Post Office was discontinued in 1935. Note that mail was redirected to Canaseraga. (The Canaseraga, NY post office is still in operation today.)
