Hi all, I picked this up today at a flea market, it was in with some old letters and postcards. Could someone please help with what this is. From what I found in the catalog it could have silk threads. Should I remove it to see the back? Thanks for your time. Gary

Without knowing the subject, I would say: don't touch it! It's a 142 years old document, that deserves to be preserved as it has reached our days. Even if the stamp is from the cheap version, it's far more interesting (regardless of the monetary value) attached to the document, than as a single. If the document is genuine, 3200 $ should have been a huge sume by 1872!
So, in my view, a nice piece to keep intact.

I appreciate the input Cursus, I'm not to good with these type stamps. Your right, I have to refrain from separating it from the slip and finding out exactly if it has silk threads. Thank you. Gary

This is an R135, a 2 cent third issue. There is no reason to remove it. Although a common stamp and usage, it's nice to have the Clermont, Robert Fulton's steamship as the symbol of the Fulton National Bank, located on the corner of Fulton and Pearl streets.
