Comparing Ceylon Sg419 And Sg488?

Help please! I can't figure out how I'm supposed to tell the difference between the KGVI era SG419 and the seemingly identical QEII era SG488 (and the rest of that series).

It might be helpful if you posted a photo of the stamps that have you are having trouble identifying.

I don't have my Stanley Gibbons catalogue here with me, but I did an online search. Here is Ceylon SG 419 from 1951:




And here is Ceylon SG 488 from 1964:



Maybe you had a typo in your request. I would guess that you are having trouble distinguishing between some other stamps than these two.

There is a note in Gibbons after SG 419/30:
'Nos. 413/30 were reissued in 1958-62, redrawn with 'CEYLON' much smaller and other inscriptions in Sinhalese. See Nos. 448/65.'

So it should be possible to distinguish the reissues from the originals, if you have both.

The 2 stamps in question are SG419 and SG448 (not 488).
