Here is a photo of the "stacks" of covers I have yet to go through. But there is also a photo of two airmail letters that are new to me. Any thoughts?

That is UC39. An aerogramme for use to international destinations. An Aerogramme is a very thin, light single page used for sending shorter, yet private, messages quickly via Air Mail.

okay, I thought they were strange cause the contents was all written inside and the letter folded around it.

Generally the most valuable US covers are going to be Pre-UPU (1875) era stuff, generally to foreign destinations.

Don't discount those U39 Kennedy Aerogrammes. They are much less common "used" than they are "mint". In fact the Scott Catalog actually lists their $4 value in italics, suggesting that the secondary market is rather limited for them.

Most of the modern covers have little-to-no value (post 1940). The best items will usually be sent oversees, have interesting mixes of postage, have lots of markings (destinations), or addressed to famous people. Everything else is usually fodder for the 4/$1 bin!

As Brian says,

This is quite true, especially with stamps on cover, though there are exceptions.

If you see any postally used airmail postal cards like this (or the 15 cent rate):

Set them aside. I bought this one from a dollar box. They catalog for $75. Always best to check the catalog for any modern stationary item as a good general practice. You will quickly learn what may or may not have value.
