A warning to be careful when using USPS Automated Postal Center Kiosks.

The US Postal Inspection Service is investigating reports of skimmer fraud from stamp vending machines across the US. The problem apparently dates back to last November and affected machines were found in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Nebraska, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Utah, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.

Actually, "always look for skimmers" is good advice for any credit- or debit-card swipers, not just postal customers . . .

In case anyone is wondering, a skimmer is a device that is hooked up to the place where you put your card into the maching (APC, ATM, etc). It reads and records your credit card information. Also inspect the place where you enter your card if it looks unusual or if it sticks out of the machine more than it should.

Pretty bold attaching a skimmer to a USPS machine. That's a federal crime which means hard time.

Hackers! (to be read with the same tone of voice that Seinfeld said "Newman"). They are pretty clever. Ooops, there's one parked outside the house trying to access my fridge controls. Gotta go...

Actually...that means that the prison will have better facilities than most state prisons. If you just HAVE to do some time, a federal prison would be the place.
