What Is The Actual Face Value Of The P Stamp?

Is it $1? Or $0.85?

I believe it is $0.85 because that is the domestic letter rate up to 30g, and the P stamp covers this.

The fact that you pay $1 for a single stamp does not make the P stamp FV = $1 - CP is just adding $0.15 premium for the handling.

As of this very moment it is worth $0.85 CAD.

This is a very good question and it will be interesting to se how Unitrade resolves it. HST of course is not part of the price.

All of Canada's Permanent(tm) stamps, as of March 31, 2014, have a face value of 85c.

The Unitrade catalogue, as it has a couple of times in the past, will be increasing the mint price of all Permanent(tm) stamps to reflect this increase in postage value.

As the face value of the Permanent(tm) stamps increase in the coming years, so will the mint price in the Unitrade catalogue.

(I believe this same practice occurs in other countries that have non-denominated stamps that change value with each rate increase, including the USA and Great Britain.)

Thx Robin et al. There is a guy on ebay selling 100 P stamps and claiming face value is $100. I tried to correct him but his response was to hurl insults and threaten to report me for harassment.

I reported him for misrepresenting his item, but I don't think ebay really does anything about this stuff.
