I don't like the "You'll get the first 100 stamps I grab" thing. I remember buying a lot by weight once where they said they just grab an ounce and whatever they picked, you got. Thankfully it was just an ounce (off paper), but what I got was about 8 different stamps, about 5 of which had just a couple duplicates; the other 3 had probably 100 copies each. All, of course, were common as dirt. I did not reorder that mixture, needless to say. Someone needs to put a little more effort into it in picking some variety. |

those sales are fraud showing a large lot and selling a fraction of it. when I first started ebay I fell for it and complained to ebay and didn't pay it showed a large box and I got this little dinky box with a few things, I told em I wasn't going to pay for it's return either and I got my refund. there is a guy from new york famous for that scam large box pictured, 100 stamps offered bait and switch and others like you all say they decide what you get, heck no way , why would I buy anything and not know what it is, stupid! ha lol, no no no. |

Over the last few months I've been checking ebay looking for estate or other finds being sold by individuals (as opposed to stampers). There are several auctions out there similar to this one, and in my view, they are little more than "come ons" and bordering on false advertising. If they showed a box of stamps, or albums or the like and said this is what is being sold on this auction, then it would be fine. Just my opinion of course............ |

Suspect you folks might do better by checking out the bulk lots advertised in the back of Linn's. And there are a few such advertisers in the back of the American Philatelist. Both publications have a code of ethics for sellers. |

And there is good old Mr. E. Rawolik reviewing them all the time, making sure things are on the up and up (in the case of Linns that is). |

Quote: ... This offer will be completly unsearched ... See those big, bright yellow-orange labels? 112, 233 ... are these auction lot numbers? Surely, one of us can identify the auction house these passed thru? When you imagine the auctioneer grading the lot, and the bidders who attended that auction assessing the contents of that box, are there really going to be any undiscovered gems waiting to be found? This seller cares so much about you that s/he promises to not care at all what stamps s/he pulls from the pile to send you? This is re-assuring? Too bid on this lot requires three things: your greed (that treasure-hunting mentality that we all share), your pride (that the seller is not that smart), and your cash (hopefully not needed for something important). I've got all three, but I'm re-purposing the lyrics of an old C/W song: "If this lot were a fish, I'd throw it back." Cheers, /s/ ikeyPikey |

I buy a ton of mixtures/bulk lots from the back of Linn's - at least a couple every week. I keep my eye out for ones advertised as collectors selling out, as they tend to give a little more bang for the buck. When I find that a particular seller is providing particularly good mixtures, I'll keep reordering over and over, often ordering double or triple lots at a time. I end up with a lot of extras, which I then sell the better ones on ebay and use the proceeds to buy individual stamps and sets that I need. I rarely buy mixes on ebay. I buy the mixes on Linn's and individual stamps and sets on ebay. I've bought mixes on ebay before and had decent luck, but I think the ones I get from sellers in Linn's are usually better, although I've been disappointed in lots I've bought from sellers in Linn's, too. |
