The new engraved Airmail Anniversary came in the mail from a ISWSC. I did not realize it was engraved.

I've often put too much postage on something because I didn't have the appropriate denomination in my stash of random, unused stamps.

I exchange postcards with a friend of mine, and today I used a U.S.-Japan Gifts of Friendship stamp (1st class letter rate Forever), not so much because I didn't have something for the current postcard rate (which I might), but because it was fitting for the image on the postcard (Kaminarimon in Asakusa, Tokyo). I got the better end of the exchange, though, because he sent me a postcard of the singing duo YANAKIKU:

In the interest of saving you a whopping entire cent on postage, the rate for an additional ounce for a domestic letter did not increase with the most recent postal rate increase and is still 21 cents. Also, the nonmachinable surcharge for a domestic letter stayed flat at 21 cents.

I order some mounts from Global Stamps on Sunday and they arrived today. Quick service and decent prices. The brag they are rarely out of stock and have not disappointed me yet.

Today I got a couple of old picture postcards that I'd bought on ebay. This one, written in Esperanto and featuring a Georgian woman in traditional garb, is from Tbilisi, 1913:

And then there's this pretty one from Paris, 1904. Ooh la la!

Another ebay purchase: a first day cover of Russia #2601 (Scott), commemorating the 1600th anniversary of the birth of Mesrop Mashtots, creator of the Armenian alphabet.

Sadly in my case it's more a matter of what's NOT in my mailbox.

My local carrier station has an established pattern of under-deliveries during vacation breaks by regular carriers. They apparently give the temp some accumulated junk mail to distribute. Then when the regular guy returns we get a box full of mail. That's happening this week. Day after day it's a little pile of pizza coupons, etc in my box. I have some ebay purchases I've been waiting on now for over ten days.

I've complained endlessly about this, no effect. They deny doing this of course but I know they do.

Siegel had a sale a week ago Tuesday, and on that Thursday - 2 days after the sale, I had my lots in my hand. Gotta love that turnaround.
