What Was In Your Mailbox Today??

Today I received some Minkus catalogs I won on ebay, a two volume worldwide from 1961 and 1960 and 1974 editions of the U.S. catalog.

A fun trip to the mailbox today. I received the stamps I won in the October StampSmarter contest (Don - a great mix. Thank you again!). I also received my copy of the November American Philatelist as well as a postcard for the upcoming Chicagopex '19 show.

A few days ago this ebay purchase from Iceland arrived in my mailbox... contents not stamp related, but I was VERY happy to see the seller used actual postage stamps! With a population of about 360,000, this has to be a pretty unusual envelope these days!

Question is... do I save the whole thing which takes up space, or go cut-corner?

Today I received an ebay lot I won last Friday, a Scott International Part II with roughly 800 stamps already mounted. I was actually surprised I won the lot. Usually those go above my threshold fairly quickly.

It looks to be in pretty good shape, although the U.S. pages are missing. I understand the rationale of having a separate U.S. album, but I wish more collectors would have just left them in the albums. (Gripe over )

I've reached the point in my Denmark collection where I'm just getting the new issues as they come out (I usually wait to the end of the year) but wanted to branch out a little so started buying postal stationery whenever I'd come across them. My only source of reference is a 1986 Michel catalogue of postal stationery of Western Europe, so I have a rough idea of what was issued at least up until 1985, , and have a rough idea of what prices were like then, albeit in Deutschmarks. This one came up for sale (buy it now) and the seller said only 500 of these were issued, so, since I needed it anyway, and the price seemed reasonable I bought it. This design, the flying trunk, with, I believe, Hans Christian Andersen sitting inside, was used for aerograms for many years with the denomination, starting at 60 ore in 1964, going through many price increases, and in 1972, the Danish post office overprinted 90 ore sheets with a 1 Krone overprint. The Michel catalogue lists 2 variants which they call Kz 28 (which this one is) and Kz 32. I believe this refers to the print run, because mine has a tiny 28 printed on the lower left side of the sheet. Michel lists it at 70 DM for unused, which is way more than for any other variation of the flying trunk aerogram, so perhaps today it could be worth a few bucks, and with a print run of only 500 (if that is in fact true) then there aren't many other collectors out there that have one. Does anyone know if that Kz designation does refer to the print run? I couldn't find it in the list of abbreviations at the front of the Michel catalogue, and my knowledge of German is next to nil.

The KZ in the Michel catalogue means Kennzahl.

Which in this case roughly translated means printing identification number.

Here's a view similar to the one in Johan's Mophila postcard. As you can see, some things have changed and some haven't. The old bridge is gone and there is a new footbridge a little bit over. And there are trees now.

The Chilehaus (on the left) was owned by a shipping magnate who made his fortune dealing in Chilean saltpeter.

A nice cover it just arrived.

It was offered as a cover with the UK 1935 silver Jubilee series.

That is correct, but it also happens to be a FDC.

Mr Phillips who posted this cover was an airmail specialist dealer and as I understand he posted a number(quantity unknown) to a probably bogus adress, so that he covers were returned.

Philatelistic? Absolutely.

Do I mind? Not at all.

Today I received a copy of the new Stanley Gibbons Switzerland catalogue to replace my 20 year old copy.
