Can anyone out there help identify a stamp
its a 5d queen victoria oil rivers lilac and ultramarine
with a 5/- hand surcharge overprint on it....
my first guess is it might be a forgery as the 5/- stamp is on a 2d green and carmine stamp...
was there any hand stamped on a 5d stamp with a 5/- overprint ???????

The GB Overprint Society only lists one 5/- overprint for Oil Rivers Protectorate, and that is on the 2d stamp. The only 5d stamp with overprint listed is the 10/- on 2d.

That's all I can tell you without a picture. Hopefully, somebody else can chime in.

Out of curiosity, what color is the overprint?

Oh, and welcome! Questions about classic-era BC material are nice to see. (Strictly speaking, the subforum for Worldwide Classics might draw more attention to a question such as this, but you won't get banned here for picking the wrong forum.)

you would probably get a better response if it was NOT in the US classic category....

All I can tell you is that it doesn't look like the genuine 5/- overprint that is on the 2d stamp. In that surcharge, the "/" is very thin and the "-" is thin. Also, the flag of the "5" is curved at top, and both the tip of the flag of the "5" and the bottom of the vertical stroke on the "5" are pointed.

Whether a 5/- surcharge exists on the 5d stamp and what it should look like if it were genuine, I would not know.

You cannot do it. I already sent a note to the staff when you first posted, asking them to move the thread.
