Here is a German Postal Stationery item H&G #227 issued in 1934. This is the reply portion of the double card. Note that it is postmarked in the UK, in Paddington, and returned to Germany in 1938.
Unless Paddington got moved to Germany for a short period, they seem to have let it go through. Interesting!

Hi:

You answered your own question "This is the reply portion of the double card." There was no letting it go through! The Post Office in the UK was obligated to sent the card to Germany without further postage. Postage was already paid by the original sender in Germany. The statement printed on the card "Carte Postal--reponse" tells the post office in the receiving country that the card has been prepaid.

I appears that since I only have 4 posts the normal rules of courtesy do not apply. Perhaps is it assumed that without over 500 posts I have no knowledge of postal history.

Hi occamsrazor,

Sometimes replies on here take longer than by conventional mail. It is nothing personal, just depends on how often topics are revisited.

occams razor: It appears you are directing your vent toward my lack of response to your post? I agree with your assumption, as you are indeed correct. I posted the item just from the point of interest of the UK-German bond of it. I didn't think a reply was necessary, as we both knew the answer. My bad.

Some people collect postmarks with other than normal original issuing countries outside of country markings.
I would be interested in knowing if one tried it today, it would still be valid? Since the US doesn't issue
any foreign double cards of late, I would assume it might be difficult. I have many older US postal cards with foreign postmarks so yes it was a common practice. I have also seen US cards sent to foreign countries, the reply half used, but with a postage due tax applied. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't.

Sorry to have offended you.
