Kris Rascher - Very nice! Your Norway Stamp Day engraving miniature sheet was also designed by Norwegian artist and engraver Knut Løkke-Sørensen, but it was printed by lithography (offset), not recess engraved. - nethryk

Here is an image of an airmail stamp depicting (as described in Scott) a hand holding an astrolabe (an ancient astronomical computer for solving problems relating to time and the position of the Sun and stars in the sky), an airplane, and the Southern Cross, printed by lithography on tinted paper, and issued by Argentina on September 25, 1946 for "Aeronautics Week," Scott No. C48.

And just for good measure, this maxicard (nr. 25) was put out by the Swedish post office for Stockholmia 1986. The engraver was Sjööblom, and the person on the stamp is obviously working on the profile of King Gustav VI Adolf (1882-1973). Note that the cancel has a hand using stamp tweezers.

Merry Christmas to all! Peter Paul Rubens created this beautiful painting of Mary and Jesus greeting the donor couple Alexandre and Anne Goubeau in 1604. The stamp was issued in 1977 for Rubens 400th birthday. Mary's hands support, the Child Jesus blesses the elderly couple and their hands show gestures of adoration. The painting can be seen in Tours, France.

The Generations: The flag of India is passed on to the younger generation. 1962 was a turbulent year for India, but the conflict with China along its northern border was finally resolved (Sino-Indian War).

Protect Children: This drawing on a stamp was Brasil's commemorative for UNICEF in 1968. Does anyone know who did the drawing?
((Hi Lithograving, Happy New Year and thanks for Canada's Dürer. Surely all hand collectors have the set, but your scan of this small stamp (only 2x2.5 cm) shows it at its best. One can even see each paper fiber. You saw the Saar version (2.5x4 cm) on page two.))

Protect Children: This great design was done by Alexandru Nenciu for Rumania's UNICEF stamp last year. "Stop violence against children!"
