Some great new additions while I was gone! It's amazing to see so many conductors.

These hands represent the meeting of France and England underneath the waters of the channel. Completed and opened in 1994, it is the longest underwater tunnel in the world. Only trains go through.

Way back on page 2 there are several stamps depicting sign language. These are the new ones from Isreal: from left to right "Thanks, Kiss, Friendship, Love and Goodbye". Note that there are Hebrew and Arabic languages and that the tabs show the alphabet in Hebrew.

Hi Nethryk, I like the last ones you contributed; except for the Austrian one, they were new to me.

Kris Rascher - Thanks. I'm glad that some of the stamps I've shown in this thread are new to you. As I comb through my collection looking for examples of "hands" stamps to post here, I try to find ones that may be less familiar to some SCF members.

Here is an image of an airmail stamp depicting Pope John Paul II shaking the hands of devout admirers, the coat of arms of the USA, and the date October 1, 1979, designed and combined engraved by Francesco Tulli and lithography, and issued by Vatican City on June 24, 1980 as one of a set of seven stamps commemorating the pope's worldwide travels, Scott No. C70.

The Upaep is the Postal Union of the Americas, Spain and Portugal (founded in 1911), a specific subdivision of the Universal Postal Union. The two hands of Ecuador have blue shadings: if you try to follow the contours, you'll see that they represent the oceans, letting the hands be a globe! (Hi Nethryk, The Pope set is really nice and shows him the way he was. Did you know these?)

Kris Rascher -Thanks! I would agree that Francesco Tulli created a good likeness of Pope John Paul II on that Vatican City airmail stamp. In my opinion, the stamps you have posted above are also well designed.

Here is an image of an engraved stamp depicting hands with broken chains holding up a torch, and the United Nations emblem, and issued by (South) Vietnam on December 10, 1958 as one of a set of four similar stamps commemorating the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Scott No. 97.

India issued this unusual design in a stamp in 2001 for Childrens' Day; the hands embrace the whole world, maybe the satellites and the media setup represent contact between people from all parts of the world. Any ideas?
