Stamp Insider for July–August 2014

The July–August issue of the Stamp Insider, journal of the Federation of New York Philatelic Societies, is online and available for free download in PDF format or viewing online with page turning. It is available in both PDF and HTML5-friendly format at:

http://www.stampinsider.org

In the lead article — "From Ruins To Landmark: How a Small Fort Emerged from History's Dustbin" — author Glenn A. Estus describes how the rebirth of New York State's Fort Ticonderoga led to the issuance of the three-cent stamp honoring the fort's bicentennial in 1955 (Scott No. 1071).

Other articles include: Part II of "Let the Celebrations Begin: 75th and 50th Anniversaries of New York World's Fairs" and and a excerpt from Yamil H. Kouri, Jr.'s "Spanish Colonial Mail" paper in From Indian Trails to the Birth of a Nation. The latter was recently published by the Spellman Museum of Stamps and Postal History in a compilation of its 2013 postal history symposium in Weston, Massachusetts.

In addition to the usual columns, we recommend that readers visit the club pages (54–76) as most contain invaluable philatelic information.

The featured video — "Drumming Up Members" — shows how the the Greater Utica Stamp Club sought to increase its membership through Mohawk Valley Living, a local access channel. Learn more about the club at http://greater-utica-stamp-club.kan...central.com.
