I would like to start a civil war stamp album. The problem is I don't know where to begin? I know I can make one, but i'm wondering if there are any ready made ones? Also are there any online lists of civil war stamps.
There are some companies that make albums and also covers that commemorate the Civil War.
Are you looking to form a collection of stamps issued to commemorate the Civil War (for example, 100th anniversary of a Civil War battle), or actual stamps that were issued during the Civil War?
Are you looking to include covers (stamped and non-stamped envelopes)? Are you interested in event covers that commemorate the Civil War, or Patriotic covers used during the Civil War?
If in period, are you interested in both the Confederate stamps and usages as well as the Union? Are you interested in blockade run covers, prisoner of war covers, ...?
As you can see, you should decide on your focus first to narrow down what you want to collect.
You can find the stamps issued during the Civil War and also commemorative stamps issued to commemorate battles and other events of the Civil War in the Scott, Brookman and other stamp catalogs.
For example, Scott #1178 - 1182 were issued in 1961 - 1965 to commemorate various battles/locations of the Civil War.
Quote: Also are there any online lists of civil war stamps.
Wiki has provided you with a start at the link below. Of course, this is only a summary and your collection can be as specific or as broad as you want based on your own preferences:
