Poll Question:
A recent article begs the question, have you ever visited the APS either in State College, PA or in Bellefonte, PA?

No visit yet, but semi-firm plans to do so because I do visit the general area about once per year. |

Not sure there is a difference in your first two choices, but still the answer is No, I've never been. And it's not something I'm planning.

Do they have guided tours? Do kids go there on field trips? Do kids still go on field trips? Seriously, its never crossed my mind. What would one do or see there? |

Well, as some of the letters to the editor in the recent American Philatelist mention, its not really located in a place you visit. I'm sure Bellefonte is nice, but I doubt I'll ever have reason to be there, so for me, it just isn't likely to happen. |

Yeah, the problem with having such a huge country is that no matter where you put a "centrally" located office you are over a thousand miles away from someone. |

The difference between the 1st 2 options is that one has never given it a thought, one way or another and the other is that one has thought about it and has decided to rule it out. |

Not trying to attack the poll here, but it seems like there needs to be a middle option between "No plans to ever visit" and "Have firm plans to", perhaps particularly for those way at the other end of the country. (Southern California in my case.)
Something like "Hope to visit there someday if possible" would most accurately describe me. |

My impression of the recent letters-to-editor in the American Philatelist is that some people still want to fight the Match Factory purchase battle. I'll offer that it's time for such individuals to seriously "get over it."
Smauggie's point about being in a big country is very relevant. And I've never heard anyone complain, for example, that L.L. Bean is located in Maine and is not "centrally located." I have no current plans to visit the main office in Bellefonte, but that does not mean that I am unable to take near-full advantage of the services offered for my $45 in annual dues. |

I visited a few years ago when I wasn't even an APS member. They were very nice to me there. I happened to be on a trip to PA and decided to pass by there. I liked the American Philatelic Research Library the most and I bought a few used philatelic books from them. It was a very impressive building. |

I've been to the APS plenty of times over almost twenty years. I make a trip to Bellefont about three times a year. I live in Philadelphia and it's a three hour drive, always nice to get out of the city. It's an old victorian town with some antique stores. Plenty of B+B to stay at. State college is ten minutes away. *** Edited by Staff - Please Review the rules that you agreed to when you registered. ***Vince |
