Hi Folks. So I seem to have gotten lucky with my most recent purchase. I paid 85 euro for a beautifull Album with stamps related to space. anyway, this stamp was inside and from what I can find out there are not many of them.. The Thing is that of course I could do with the Money...but it would also be a shame to sell it.. It seems to increase in value quite rapidly.. so what do I do with it? Keep it? sell it? get it certified? what is the likelyhood of it becoming much more valuable in the future? thanks.

This is actually one of my additional collection areas. If a stamp of a person exists, I will try to get the first day cover and have the person on the stamp sign the first day cover.

The thing about autographs on stamps is that you limit yourself to a very select group of collectors. It's not the same as a signed photograph for example so it will not sell as quickly or as much.

However, you have a Neil Armstrong autograph. He stopped signing autographs when he figured out that people were profiting from his autographs which makes it kind of a rarity so I would say that your autograph could go from anywhere between $500 to $2000. Again, it'll go back to the item upon which it was signed which would affect the value and the speed of the sale.

I can only imagine that the value of this autograph will keep going up as Neil Armstrong is a significant person in history so he's unlikely to be forgotten any time soon.

Hate to tell you this - but it is a well-known forgery.

See the below link for details (near the bottom of the page):

Neil Armstrong autographs are tough, and faked by the thousands!

I dont think you should hate to tell me anything John. While I appreciate that there have obviously been forgeries of this stamp, I dont really understand why you would jump right in and Claim that the one I have is. If it is the forger went to a lot of work on the whole Album. The Album was apparently put together by the Herman- Oberth Company and the Forward to the Album is signed by Herman Oberth himself. It is full of interesting covers and stamps. I will post a couple of more pics to Show. I bought the Album in a stamp shop in Regensburg, Germany. I am not saying it is definatly genuine but the man who sold it to me was not trying to make a big deal of the signature at all.. the other signed cover is signed by acosmonaut called popovich.. Normaly I would also suspect a forgery but this time I dont think so.

Fair enough - suggest you get it authenticated though, as it is worth serious money if genuine.
I'll stand by my opinion - good luck, and be sure to let us know how the authentication turns out!

Hello

In my opinion, the Neil Armstrong signed Belgian stamp block posted by decrynne appears to be authentic. These are referred to as Eiermann souvenir sheets and a number of astronauts contracted to sign them commercially in 1969. In many cases these are authentic.

However, unsigned sheets exist, and forgers have used them. The example in my Neil Armstrong Autograph Study is an example of a forgery on the same block. (Thank you johnsim03 for linking to my study!)

I hope this helps.
