It sounds like a great way to see parts of the country you might not otherwise think to visit. As long as you see things other than stamps and stamp accessories, I tell you what.

Since returning to active collecting, I decided to do something I'd never done before: attend an FDOI ceremony. Started adding the nearby releases on my calendar. One got weathered-on (no way I was going out in *that*) and another got scheduled-on (something more compelling came along).

My father's friend from childhood was a headline follower. No matter what it was, if something happened, he was there within a year. I remember hearing that he had visited Mount St Helens, and thinking "of course he did".

AFAIK, he never added cacheted covers (etc) to his headline following, which is a shame ;)
