Does anyone have a Sabor of the Midland cinderella tied on cover? This is a frequently seen cinderella, but I have never seen one on cover, imperf or perf'ed. If someone has one, would you post a image of it?

Also, what kind of product was Cacoa AirLustr?

Thanks.

Don

Thanks for the response 22crows. The basics of the issue are known, but some details are lacking. What was CacoAirlustr? Why do we not see this cinderella on cover like so many others of the 1930s & 40s, especially given its range of production, ie. perf'ed, imperf, souvenir sheets, different colors?

Dubuque, Iowa, was the home of Russell Sabor and of Midland Laboratories. I've Googled Midland Laboratories and found this link. http://www.encyclopediadubuque.org/...LABORATORIES

It looks like it was in business at least into the 1970s. No info, however, on CacoAirlustr

Any SCF forum members from Dubuque who might have some local info?

No local info., but Midland Laboratories was acquired in 1972 by Rochester Midland Corporation of Rochester, NY. The company makes cleaners, disinfectants and insecticides for the janitorial services industry. See paragraph #4 at this link:

Thanks, wt1. CacoAirlustr may have been a liquid soap or possibly a floor cleaner/wax. Would be nice to know.

Given Midland was a chemical related company, I bet the CaCO refers to calcium carbonate (calcite). The product would be CaCO Air-Lustr or some inside joke about CaCO3 and removing CO2 from the air.

There was a product called Hair-Lustr but not by Midland.

Your speculation is as good as any I've seen so far. Thanks for your response.

Resurrecting an ancient post...

Hi,

The reason you are having difficulty in finding references to Cacoairlustr is because: a) the first letter is an "L" and not a "C", and b) there is a typographical error in the name.

The name of the product that Midland Laboratories made, and that Russell Sabor sold, was Lacqairlustr. This was in addition to other products, of course.

See below.

Jim

Opinion:
given the reason of production, the giveaways etc, I see no reason why they should exist on a cover, perhaps the odd stamp collector may have added one here and there,
the stamp was not allied to any service local post, local air etc.
Inspired in the main, as a phantasy.

At last,a mystery solved. Thank you Jim. Now I will add this new info to my write-up for this Cinderella. Now all I have to do is find one tied on cover.

Rod:

Thanks for your opinion. You are correct about so many items like this, but I hope you are not this time. Surely, a collector put one of these items on a cover and mailed it. I will continue my hunt for one.

Best wishes.

Yes Don, I hope you find one.
My opinion was not in any way negative, just weighted towards probability.

The thing is, if you find one, tied that is, you shall have a scarcity.
I wish you all the best of luck.

Your search has elements why we all collect, part of which is to find the occasional odd one out, the rarity. It sweetens the hobby.
