Question About A Stamp Dealer

I just wanted to ask about a dealer, Potomac Supplies, aka Maryland Stamp & Coin.

Has anyone ordered from them and what is their experience in regards to shipping time?

I placed a couple of orders, all for White Ace supplies, one on Aug. 16 and one on Aug. 19. On August 29, I received an update that the orders have been combined and are now classified as "approved" but I still see no indication of shipping, or when they might be shipped.

An email to the company following up has gone unanswered.

I don't want to press the panic button just yet, and clearly the order is progressing toward something, given the change in status. I also don't want to bash a dealer who may have a legitimate reason for being a little slow on shipping.

If you've dealt with them, is this normal?

Like that poster, I think I am into "instant gratification." Still not sure why my email has not been responded to. I'll give them a call in the next day or two.

I live in the DC area and have dealt with Potomac Supplies both via website orders and in person at their store, Maryland Stamps and Coins. I trust these folks completely. They have been very helpful to me in the past. They may be a bit slow when ordering some things, maybe because they are out of stock.

August 29 was the Friday before the long Labor Day weekend. Perhaps their office was closed for a few days?

They were also at the APS show just recently in Hartford, CT. so they were out of town for several days. I've also use to visit their store in Bethesda, Maryland in the 1990's - early 2000's when I lived in Maryland. I've always found David, Herman and Russ to be very easy to deal with and helpful.

Agree on their credibility, I have had to wait up to a couple weeks if they were re-stocking, but they have always come through and I've met them in person also. Give David a call for the best status. John

All, I appreciate the feedback and I highly respect that there are fans of the company who are very satisfied with their service here.

Two days ago, the credit card hold on the first order I placed was released. The second will be released tomorrow. A month in, and they still do not have all the merchandise in stock that I ordered.

I did get an email through today and it actually received a response explaining that they were still awaiting some of the items (White Ace album binder and pages) and then asked me to call tomorrow to reapply the hold to my credit cards.

I instructed them to let the hold on the second order fall off and consider the orders cancelled. Some people may call it instant gratification, but a month in there is still no indication of when I might receive these items. It's not a level of service I'm OK with.

I am sorry it didn't work out as I like their prices and I rather enjoy supporting small businesses.

ecmorgan- I had a similar experience with them a few years ago. I had ordered some coin supplies, which were to be a birthday gift for my mom. I placed the order about 6 weeks before I needed it, so I never dreamed there would be an issue. As the weeks went on, I repeatedly called and emailed them for a status update. Every time I was told they would ship "next week." Well, a few days before my mom's birthday they finally told me that the items were on backorder and they didn't even have an estimate of when they would ship. I cancelled the order and had to scramble to find another last minute gift. I don't believe that they're deliberately being dishonest, but they do seem to have some issues with proactive communications.

MoiraR, I agree that I don't think they are being dishonest.
