Hello all, long time no type

I got a Postcrossing postcard today with the stamp below. I noticed the fish image is very fuzzy. Would YOU classify this as an error, or just plain sloppy printing? I've always viewed modern British stamps as very well printed... until today!

Thoughts?

I have never seen one of those things with good reproduction, and they are one reason I gave up collecting modern GB stamps.

That is a Post-and-Go label printed on-demand by a machine in a post office so I would regard it as poor quality printing and not an error. With the introduction of Post-and-Go, I also capped my GB collection at 2012 and actually reverted to gap-filling the Victoria classics rather than trying to stay current.

Is the fish actually printed in a machine on demand, or does that come on the label stock already?

The whole thing is printed on demand. Which, apart from the poor quality repro, raises doubts about the quality of the ink. If the machine uses dye based inks which dry quickly they will also fade quickly.

Only the black text is printed on demand. The label itself is usually much higher quality e.g. the 'Royal mail' security print, pre-printed and supplied on a roll.
This is the same as the regular Machin labels.

Nells..

You'll need a special pair of glasses... one red lens, one blue.
Then the fish will jump out of the water.

Seriously, the image reminds me of a "fuzzy" old 3D image.

Bad printing from a roll. These Post And Go stamps can be expensive to collect as there are usually six per issue and around six services to be printed making up to thirty six to collect. They can be collected "blank"... with no overprinting.
