Here is a better scan of the two Spiro Brothers forgeries, they can be identified by the cancels which is the rectangle of dots or their lined oval cancellations on the stamps.

Floortrader, there is something very unusual here - the forgeries are better looking than the real thing!

Hello Floortrader:

Are you saying that only the Spiro Brothers used the rectangle dots cancellation?

What does the lined oval cancellation look like?

Don

Thanks Classical Stamps , excellent site for more detail information .I try to post here so other readers could see what collectors are doing in their collection and encourage them to tell what they are doing . The second reason is that titles here are searchable on the internet and will find people who are searching about stamps and drive them here . I really like the exhibits of people who do show -and-tell about their own collection interest .

Floortrader, please keep posting stamps from your excellent forgery collection. I enjoy reading your 'adventures' in this niche which we have a common interest in.

I would be happy to include images of your forgeries on my site if you want - just let me know :-)

ClassicalStamps' scans are interesting and useful, but they didn't answer my questions above and restated here:

If we see a dotted rectangle cancellation on an early 19th-century Ecuadorian stamp is it certain to be a forgery? That is, the Ecuadorian post office did not use such a cancel?

What does the lined oval cancel look like?

Thanks.

Don

DON----I don't think all dotted cancellations of Ecuador are for sure a Spiro forgery ,the question would be better directed to a Ecuador Specialist. Let me find some of those lined oval cancels from Spiro and post them.
