I was perusing some online listings of postcards and came across this one which I believe is from some discontinued New York post offices. The Dresden Station postmark (presumably a receiving mark) was easy enough to identify, but does anyone know what town is represented by the the postmark on the stamp?

Thanks! That "G" sure looked like a "C" in the postmark, so that's what tripped me up!

The spelling "Schaghticoke" is correct, as there's still an active post office there today. However, as to the name of the post office historically, I found this reference:

Quote:
Early postmasters included Edwin Smith, Charles Stratton and Merritt M. Wickes. The office was called Schaghticoke until 1867, then Hart's Falls until 1881, when, the name of the village having been changed by act of the Legislature, the old post-office name was resumed.

Too bad they hadn't kept with this old time postmark for the town ... which I found in an online auction, then I would have had no trouble reading it!

No way! I just found it on an auction site. Apparently the green postal markings and the fancy "PAID" marking make it especially valuable. The auction estimated its value at $150-$200 and it realized $900 ... even as nice as it is, I'd never pay anything near that amount for such a cover.

Checkout Lot 345 at this link where it is shown:
