Here's a spray-on postal marking I haven't seen before that appeared in the upper right corner of a credit card statement mailing the other day. Does anyone know what it means?
wt1, I believe this is the first 3-digits of the zip-code of the Originating processing center. 060 would be Connecticut, in the Hartford area. (just a guess??)
Your guess could make sense, I suppose, except for the fact that the return address of Capital One is in Illinois (60197) and it was mailed to me in Massachusetts.
Alternatively, I was wondering if maybe it was some sort of "batch count" identifying the mailing, although I tend to doubt it, as upon closer inspection it is appears to be the same "spray on" imprint (typeface, number of dots in each letter, etc.) as that of the bar code and mailing detail sprayed on the bottom of the face of the envelope, so it is definitely a USPS added marking and not something made by the sender (or their mailing house).
wt1: Although the return address is Illinois, these financial institutions have contracts with mailers to process statements & bills etc.. Given todays technology, it wouldn't be too difficult to download a data base to a remote facility. If there was a date anywhere on the sprayed on it might hint to when the piece was mailed and how long it took to get to MA. If less than 2-days I would suspect it is a remote facility located in the Hartford area.
