Hi,
In a recent auction a 4 centavo stamp was included with the caption "Republica Peruana".

I "assume" it is from Peru (but why Peruana?), and perhaps is a revenue stamp.

Do you have any insight into the country name designation?

Thanks,
Mobilman44

Some of the stamps from the Peru Centenary of Independence issue (Scott 222-231, July 28, 1921) are inscribed Republica Peruana (Peruan Republic), as opposed to Peru or Correos del Peru. Maybe a more formal rendition of the country's name?

Regards, Robert

Peter,
I am well aware of all the various search engines out there.

But being a member of this Forum gives me ready contact with knowledgeable folks who can more relate to my question - thus providing a more meaningful answer(s).

I would imagine that all of our questions could be answered by a "Google Search", so your comment could be addressed to all the folks that post queries with this Forum!

Trainwreck,
Thank you for your comments, they are appreciated.

"Republica Peruana" = "Republic of Peru" (in Spanish), which is its official name.

all questions are not answerable on Google searches ......I been trying to answer the following question ---what are the difference between the E. Oneglia forgeries and the Spiro forgeries of the Queen Victoria issues of Hong Kong because everything on the Internet is a mix of the same forgeries and are mis-identified as such .

A long time since I studied Spanish, but my English translation of Republica Peruana is Peruvian Republic. Republica is the noun in this instance and Peruana an adjective. In Spanish, adjectives generally have endings that match the gender of the noun they modify.

To read it as the Republic of Peru, it would be La Republica del Peru.

In Latin America one often sees the country referred to as El Peru. in the U.S it is usually called just Peru or the Republic of Peru.
