I'm new to the Stamp Identification thing, and new to this forum, so please forgive me if I say something dumb or ask a dumb question...but here goes.

I have been trying to ID the pictured stamp, and clearly it is either a Scott639 (Rouletted 14.5 Claret with NO Watermark) or the Scott655 (Rouletted 14.5 Lake with a 156 Watermark)

Clearly the Watermark is the defining characteristic, but MY stamp does NOT have the 156 Watermark, but instead has a Watermark which is not even listed as a Mexican mark. It is very clear and looks similar to the following pic:

Am I missing something? Any help is appreciated.

A diagonal "Mexico Correo" watermark line repeatedy . .... Pretty common! The same character is arranged vertically i.e. all "O" are above each other and so are all "I" etc...

The "Mexico Correos" turns out to have more than one version!

Running from bottom left to top right:

Running from bottom right to top left:

Most significant however is the fact that the yellow line runs horizontally! I.e. the same character lies next to each other ....

Compare with the earlier (1923) version:

but also the 1934 definitives have this watermark with the "yellow line" vertical!

Thanks again for this info. Regarding this "Mexico Correos" watermark...are these separate and distinct watermarks you have indicated, or are they examples of different orientations of the same mark.

And is there any significance either way in the identification and/or valuation of this (or any other stamps) exhibiting these variations.

Thanks in advance

Separate and distinct watermarks, but probably - if at all - known in Mexico ;)
