In 2004, Israel issued a 'Design a Stamp' generic stamp and offered visitors to the National Exhibition of that year the chance to make their own design for the central portion.
Only two sheets of 15 [14 stamps and 1 label] were allowed for each design. I made three designs. It worked out at about $1 for each stamp.
One design was for the upcoming wedding of my Stepdaughter to use on her invitations. I kept back one stamp which I sold in 2011 for $115.
The second design was made for franking letters to my Dear Mother and aunts in the UK and had their names on them. I kept a few mint copies back and still have them. I also managed to find a few on cover.
The third design is my Avatar and again, I used most on my mail to family and friends.I kept only a centre label block. I realise now it was a naive mistake !

. Or was it ?
A very kind collector once sent me a T-Shirt with this avatar on it as a birthday gift. In 2008, I wore it to the 'Israel 2008, World Stamp Championship' in Tel Aviv and was inundated with questions about the stamps and offers to buy the remaining stock. I was taken aback by the popularity in this tiny nation of real personalized stamps [of which there are few] and the sums of money they can make.
At the show I was offered over $150 for the only example I have managed to find on cover.
Yesterday, I returned from a very difficult and tiring UK trip. Whilst cleaning out the apartment of my dear departed Aunt [inscribed on the 2nd design] I found a cut-out from an envelope with used copies of both the 2nd and 3rd designs plus a High value block of Israel stamps. What a find !

I wonder how much that might fetch when I next wear my T-shirt to an Exhibition ??!
