My avatar is a 1918 cinderella, issued in 1918 within the campaign launched after WWI to achieve the fully recognition by the Entente of a free Catalan Republic, under President W. Wilson's 14 Points.
It shows the Catalan Freedom Flag.
Catalonia, on the NE of the Iberian peninsula, is a 1000 years old nation, under Spanish rule since 1714.
As, from 2010 we started again to actively figh for Catalonia's independence, this avatar shows clearly my compromise with our country`s construction work.

The Twilight Zone series is one of my favorite TV shows. Even today when there is a marathon on TV I try to watch some of the them. And to me Rod Serling had a brilliant mind.

My avatar is a copy of US 116 sold by Seigel in 2006 from the Elliott Coulter Collection of 1869 Pictorials that features a very rare Sitka, Alaska CDS (and only know strike on a US 116).

It represents my obsession with both Alaska and the 1869 Pictorials.

Mine is the Avro CF-100 Canuck -- also known as the "Clunk" and the "Lead Sled". It was my first posting (1958-1962)as a RCAF Navigator to 423 Squadron in France. In those days the RCAF had two bases in France and two in Germany with their HQ in Metz France. Our Squadron still gets together almost on an annual basis and is like an extended family.

I chose My Avatar because I liked it. I thought it was such a nice stamp. Abraham Lincoln is one of my favorite Presidents.

My avatar is a reference to my "musical" past. Late seventies, early eighties I was in a local punk group. Inspired by the likes of Sid Vicious, Johnny Rotten of the Sex pistols we became Myster Bungo, Dave Dangerous, Jedd Mental and "Crazy" Maurice. We called ourselves The Bucketheads and had some minor success around the student venues in Aberdeen.

Dave later married an Irish girl and went off to live on some remote Irish island. He drowned after he fell overboard while lifting his lobster pots.

"Crazy" Maurice went on to be a roadie for top Canadian progressive rock band SAGA for 20 years. Unfortunately he is now in a coma in the Concordia Hospital, Winnipeg, Canada as a result of being a roadie for top Canadian progressive rock band SAGA for 20 years.

Bungo is a baker and living in Scotland. His only ambitions now are to have a cumfy mattress and a large fridge.

In 2004, Israel issued a 'Design a Stamp' generic stamp and offered visitors to the National Exhibition of that year the chance to make their own design for the central portion.
Only two sheets of 15 [14 stamps and 1 label] were allowed for each design. I made three designs. It worked out at about $1 for each stamp.
One design was for the upcoming wedding of my Stepdaughter to use on her invitations. I kept back one stamp which I sold in 2011 for $115.
The second design was made for franking letters to my Dear Mother and aunts in the UK and had their names on them. I kept a few mint copies back and still have them. I also managed to find a few on cover.
The third design is my Avatar and again, I used most on my mail to family and friends.I kept only a centre label block. I realise now it was a naive mistake ! . Or was it ?

A very kind collector once sent me a T-Shirt with this avatar on it as a birthday gift. In 2008, I wore it to the 'Israel 2008, World Stamp Championship' in Tel Aviv and was inundated with questions about the stamps and offers to buy the remaining stock. I was taken aback by the popularity in this tiny nation of real personalized stamps [of which there are few] and the sums of money they can make.
At the show I was offered over $150 for the only example I have managed to find on cover.

Yesterday, I returned from a very difficult and tiring UK trip. Whilst cleaning out the apartment of my dear departed Aunt [inscribed on the 2nd design] I found a cut-out from an envelope with used copies of both the 2nd and 3rd designs plus a High value block of Israel stamps. What a find !

I wonder how much that might fetch when I next wear my T-shirt to an Exhibition ??!

Well, yes I am bumping a long sleeping thread, but for a good reason. The thread has been so long sleeping than another thread was started referring to "profile pictures" rather than customised avatars likely because the person starting the new topic did not think profile pictures here were called avatars.

So the new thread: https://goscf.com/t/89168&whichpage=1
