I wasinterested in a used Scott album currently on ebay. One picture showed a couple of black mounts on a page so I asked the seller;

'One picture shows a couple of black mounts on one of the pages. Are there many of these? I prefer to avoid black mounts, thanks'

His reply:

Where do you see the mounts? if those are the lines that you see on a green cover of the book than those are the shadows of the light when the pictures were taken.

My reply:
Second picture from the left on your listing shows them pretty clearly, two on the page- they don't look like shadows. A few is no big deal, I am just trying to avoid purchasing an alum with a bunch of them I will need to remove, thanks.

His:
feel free to ask questions

Me:

I did ask a question, and you appear to have not answered it. Are there a lot of black mounts on these album pages? I don't expect you to go through all the pages but can't you give me a better idea of whether there are mounts on the pages? Thanks.

Him:
It's a for the stamps to be put inside. just back splash of it is black and on top it's clear. So when you take a picture it looks like black rectangle.

I wasn't going to ID the seller but since this is sort of meaningless without seeing the listing here it is:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/19139192604...RK:MEBIDX:IT

I still have utterly no idea if this album is full of black mounts and this seller seems to be trying to keep me from finding out. if it is I have to wonder why he just doesn't say so? Someone else might find this to their taste. This is one of the more interesting exchanges I have ever had with a seller- very frustrating!

If it was me, I think I'd simply stay away unless it was something I just couldn't find elsewhere. The seller is either ignorant, fraudulent, just plain dense or some mixture of all 3. The way I'd look at it is that there's a very high potential for disappointment or post sale headaches.

This looks like he has never sold on ebay before- there is no seller feedback for him. I think he is a relative newbie both to ebay and collecting. My guess is he had no idea what I meant by 'mount'.
Yes I am staying far away from this guy. He may learn as time goes by but I choose not be be practiced upon.
