Great display! Can you comment on the value of the forgeries relative to the real issues? What do you look for to tell the difference? I don't know much about Spiro forgeries but they seem to pop up in many countries. Newfoundland has its examples. I don't shy away from buying the early Newfoundland pence issues even without certificates because the fake stamps are worth quite a lot because, I suppose, of the quality of the design and engraving.
To answer your question about value for forgeries . Some rare forgeries can be worth more than the original . But most are worth less and some a lot less. The computer forgeries and fakes are worthless ,these computer made fakes were a big thing and had a lot of discussion on various chat boards ,but today other than being worthless are found in mixture lots still . The better made Fournier and Spiro fakes are sold often for a dollar or two ,but if they are written up and mounted on pages with details ,I seen auction prices go thru the roof with prices over $10.00 a piece if in complete sets with detail written pages . The values of forgery and fake collections are very strong right now but single stamps are floating around with very little bidding .Some of the stuff I been posting is so recent that there is no reference material or website covering it .
Most of the classic forgeries have enough reference material published or website to cover them .My big issue is that these reference sources only show a fake with a lack of explanation and to me more important a copy of the original. On side by side comparisons 95% can be I.D. by anyone ,There are some were the fakes are better made and more detailed than the original stamp . I am building a reference library and collection .
The two UN real, (pink and Blue can be found on the Album Weeds thrid edition ofR.B. Earee, I think is the third forgerie emission, one tf the frist three ave the line over the word Real.
