On February 23rd
Canada Post will issue a stamp celebrating the centenial of the first powered flight in Canada. ON February 23d 1909 the Silver Dart took the sky over Bras d'Or Lake in Baddeck Bay Nova Scotia.
On a bitterly cold day, a crow of about 100 locals witnessed the first flight in Canada, an event that led the way toward revolutionizing the way we travel. The Silver Dart was the fourth "aerodrome" brainchildof the Aerial Experiment Association (AEA), a group of flight enthusiasts recruited by Alexander Graham Bell. It was piloted by John Alexander Douglas McCurdy and assisted by runners on skates stabilizing the wing tips. It glided across the ice rising 10 meters into the air.
This past weekend there was a reenactment of the event in Baddeck, I can only imagine the exitement in that small town.
Anyhow I'll be first in line when the stamp comes out. I was thinking of doing the same thing I did with the Anne of Green Gables Stamps. I'm not certain there is a Post Office in Baddeck but I'll check that out on Monday. I'll get some covers ready and mail them to Baddeck to get cancelled and forwarded to those that are interrested.
I'll keep you updated on my progress. By the way some of you are on my permenant list and will automatically receive one (Tom, Tom, David, Larry, MK, Greg, Cim,Rick, Gussy, Robin and Katelyn, Trigg, Bandi and Emma) I know there are more I'll have to check my address book. Oh my gosh how could I forget Bob and Phil, they're first on my list

.
I'll post a pic of the Stamp when I get it
cheers
Dianne
