Ordered it from Amazon, found it at my doorstep this afternoon as I came home from work. Package looked a little dented but nothing severe, then I opened the box. The front cover was competely detached from the spine of the book - the binding had apparently broken apart in the handling. It must have taken a really hard hit somewhere along the journey, since my 2010 Scott which I use heavily still has its binding perfectly intact.

Returning to Amazon for a replacement, but how frustrating, been waiting for this to arrive and now it has to be replaced because of careless handing by the shipping chain.

I can certainly sympathize.
At least it wasn't ruined stamps.

That is a bummer. I've gotten hundreds of shipments from Amazon and have never had anything damaged. You said USPS so I assume this is one of these new "hand off" arrangements. I hope that isn't indicative of anything systemic.

Suggestion....
I took my Specialized to OFFICE DEPOT and had them
install a spiral binding (like on Brookman/Durland)
Only about $5.00 and the catalog lays flat (stay open).
Money well spent.

UNITRADE has a spiral back - I am now totally married to the concept. I find Scott's quite annoying as a result.

I still have my 2013 Scott Specialized. The binding was already coming loose out of the box.

kevin - Did you have them shave off the binding on the end so that the pages became unbound?

I don't use Scott catalogues but I guess they must be soft-cover. Usually, stuff I've received from Amazon comes in stiff boxes and I've never had a problem. Obviously this didn't. Sorry for your aggravation.

Kevin that looks great...but I am talking about the 1840-1940 Scott Classic Specialized, which is hard-cover. So making it spiral bound probably would be more of a process (one that should not be necessary considering the high cost of the catalog, north of US$150.00!)

I would not have thought that there was enough gutter space to shave the glue binding off and pierce for a spiral--the Scott catalogues are printed pretty deeply into the gutter (which when combined with font sizes, makes is hard, in my view, to see data at the extreme right or left center; but perhaps that's just a result of my aging eyes).

Thanks....
I just got tired of trying to identify a stamp.....
looking in the catalog....going back to the stamp for further
identification....and then the regular Scott wanting to turn pages.
I looked at my Brookmanand Durland and got the idea.
So off to OFFICE DEPOT....$5.00 and 15 minutes later
that is what I got.
