It is said that one of the main ingredients of the gum is no longer on the market. It may also be that the replication gum is so expensive to make that it would be financially impossible. I'm with you, in this day and age of all the modern adhesives, I don't see why something just as good can't be created.

I'm told that there is only one manufacturer of hinges today...and that whatever (modern) brand of hinges you buy, they will be made by this company. That's probably true.

I swear by the old Dennison brand, and gladly pay the going ebay rate. I often remount on blank Scott specialty pages; with the Dennisons not only does the stamp come away unscathed, and without any hinge remnants, but there is barely a mark on the page itself, which can be reused.
