September 1, 1950
Copper ore was found in Mansfeld Land and has been mined since 1200. Copper mining and the smelting of copper and its accessory metals played a major role in the economy of East Germany.
The stamp designs portray a miner and a smelter.

El Teniente is an underground copper mine in the Chilean commune of Machalí in Cachapoal Province. With over 3000 kilometers of underground drifts, it is reported as the world's biggest underground copper mine, and is the largest operations by the state-owned mining company CODELCO.

The Wieliczka Salt Mine
July 14, 1979
The Wieliczka Salt Mine lies within the Kraków metropolitan area in southern Poland. The mine opened in the 13th century and produced table salt continuously until 2007. The Wieliczka mine is often referred to as "the Underground Salt Cathedral of Poland." In 1978 it was placed on the original UNESCO list of the World Heritage Sites.
The stamp designs show mining machinery and rock-salt crystals.

Nickel mining is a major sector of the New Caledonia economy. The islands contain about 7,100,000 tonnes of nickel which is about 10% of the world's nickel reserves.
The designs portray extraction, refining, and exportation of nickel.
