Hi. Does anyone have any SRAIL test type program that allows the comparison of perforations on different sides of a stamp which acts like an overlapping cut and paste editor program? Thanks.

Almost any good graphic application is capable of doing this; it is a question of learning how to mask one side, copy it to a new layer, then simply reverse the layer. Taking it a bit further, you can also apply a bit of transparency to the layer.

Trouble is, how you do this depends on which graphics app you are using. Do you have an existing graphics app that you use? If so, let me know and I'll post detailed instructions on how to do a Srail test. If not, let me know and I will provide instructions on a free download graphics app that can do it. (Assuming you are on a Windows computer).

1. Open MSPaint - This is a free app that comes with Windows.

2. Use File Open and open stamp image Note; be sure to turn on the 'gridlines' under the View on toolbar.

3. Use Select tool (Home tab) as shown below

4. Select just the right hand side perf as shown below

5. Select 'Copy and then 'Paste' from the toolbar to place the right hand perfs next to the left hand perfs for comparison. You can move the selection around, be sure to align up the selection using the grid lines as shown.

This is the most basic way to compare perfs. Flat plate coils perfs should never perfectly align across. Let me know if you can follow the above.

This Post is UBER-FANTASTIC. I hope 51 Studebaker can school us on many more things you can do with MS Word related to stamps.

P.S. The 1951 Studebaker Starlight Coupe is one of my favorite cars.
