Sadly, I'm not well versed in stamps from France, as I only have a select few, and I don't even have a current worldwide catalog from which to refer. Nevertheless, using an old catalog on hand I think this may be a Scott 95 (?) although I'm not sure if the color is accurate or not. Maybe it's just due to the fact that the stamp is well over a century old.

Can anyone confirm the ID of the stamp for me? In any event, it sure has a nice SON cancel from 1900.

wt1,

My Scott 2000 shows this as either Scott 74 or Scott 95. Both are listed with a red, straw color.

Scott 74 Type I - the "N" of INV is under the "B" in Republique ($30)
Scott 95 Type II - the "N" in INV is under the "U" in Republique ($1.40)

I was not able to discern the type based on your photo. It would be a nice find to have the Type I, good luck.

Hope this helps.
Hobsun

I have the 2008 version of the catalog. Same info as Hobsum013. The value listed for the type I is a bit lower though, $27.50.

It is the later type II from 1900.

Thanks for the info. I didn't think I had a particularly valuable stamp, but the color reference to "red, straw" is what confused me.

The Maury catalogue has 8 shades for this stamp. Scott is just to generic for anything other than USA I find.
The 1900 one is described as dark vermillion on straw.
