At our Stamp Club Christmas Celebration, I was selected FIRST for the door prizes. I selected a batch of stamps, and look what I found, GS #69. I never heard of this country/entity, but found out it had a decent catalog value. Anyone have any other Griqualand West stamps?

Partime, I hate to tell you this, but your doorprize is probably a forgery. The genuine stamp has a border around the stamp, including around the 'postage four pence' part.

Actually, as noted at the beginning of the Griqualand West section, the 4p may be a Type 1 (Frame Line) or Type 2 (No Frame Line), and Scott #69 lists a Type 2, without the frame line. So, the stamp is the right one, the overprint just needs to be expertised.

Thanks guys. I think it is a type 2 and the pictures in my book show some pretty rough Gs. I won't expertise it, as the stamp quality is questionable anyway. Still, a keeper.
