I would like to know what kind of material you are using ( or you have utilized in the past) for removing the hinges and some existing parts of paper always sticked after a water immersion ?

Please, give your comments also for your bad expériences with material you are no more using !
Thank you

I assume that you are talking about things that haven't come loose after a quick water bath.

Some things do take a bit longer and I have used a water bath in *slightly* warm water with maybe one drop of dish soap added for every pint or so of water for up to a couple of hours. That's an exception, most things just take a few seconds to 2 minutes or so.

Some things like glue or tape can get on stamps and I haven't found any successful way of getting it off without damaging the stamp. Maybe somebody else has had more success.

I've never used anything but water to remove hinges or paper stuck to the back of stamps. Sometimes it takes awhile, as Buck49 says, but if a water bath won't remove it I just leave it there rather than risk damaging the stamp.

@Dudley
Exactly ! Due to the value of the stamps and their antiquity, I cannot take any risk of dammaging !
But on some of them, the back is covered on the whole surface with paper and I need to see the stamp 's back for the fibers or the silk thread.
Other thing: some ( all?) experts want the stamps to be absolutly cleaned before they make their certification ! And then, how to do, without dammaging ( even a little) the stamps ?

I use Febreze. Shoppers Drug Mart, Cdn Tire, etc. Works like a charm.
