Which stamp, collection, cover, book, album, etc. is your favorite purchase this year? Mine is a quite complete collection of used Indian stamps from the QV period to post independence. While not the most valuable, these are my favorite stamps from the collection.

Hi! Jenny. Actually, my best buy in 2014 ... so far ... has been to get back to collecting stamps ... after over 40 years of being away from it !! In the last 3 months ... I must have bought over 200 of mint Canadian stamps ... just to get started again ... You must understand that I am all exited about joining this forum !! |

Welcome to the forum Pierre. I'm sure you will soon realize that there is a wealth of knowledge here that you can tap into.
My favourite purchase for 2014 was a Canadian $1 Admiral (Scott 122), mint, never hinged in very fine condition for less than $25. (Because it was going to a good home!) |

I re-entered the hobby in November 2013 after a 30 year hiatus, and 2014 was huge for me. My favorite purchase was an 1840 1d black and 1840 2d blue, with matching check letters, picked up at Stanley Gibbons in London on one of two trips there in 2014. For me, the highlights of the year were "experiential". In the course of the year, tacked on to business travel, I managed to visit historic philatelic sites in London including the RPSL, buy at a live auction in London, visit the historic weekend bourse in Paris, attend a national show in New York, buy an estate album in San Francisco, buy via mail auction, and establish relationships with several dealers whom I plan to return to repeatedly. I find these personal experiences more satisfying than sitting in a home office and trolling through online auction listings. Purchase highlights included a GB 1913 10/- Seahorse, 1859 Mauritius 1d and 2d, US 1869 Pictorials complete, and US 1901 Pan-Americans complete. A truly incredible year.

My highlight so far this year, was buying a collection of Pre-Decimal Australian Stamps, and in the collection was a 2/6d Aboriginal stamp with the rare watermark. (SG253a), Also the collection had quite a few varieties that are listed in the Australaian Commonwealth Specialist Catalogue. You never know what you will find.
Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year to all on the worlds best, friendliest, and most knowledgeable, and most helpful stamp forum.
Regards

Like others I reentered the hobby late in the year, so my purchases for 2014 date only from mid-October, but my favorite so far is this strip of three Scott #9, 1-3R1L with layout dot and center line (yes, I am a one-cent 1851-61 nerd). |

Congrats on breaking 1000 Mike. Seems like we should get a promotion for that. "Foundation of the community" or something. I am coming up on 1000 soon. Yet we will only remain Pillars. Honestly, I'm quite satisfied with my Pillarity.

I finally got my first classics! USA 210, 212, 206 and 65. My favorite of them is 65. I was just so happy to find some nice examples of classics in a price range I could afford. I hear all the time about nice classics that won't cost an arm and leg, finally able to add a few to my album. |

I think I bought too much stuff during 2014. I like it all. And, welcome back to the world's greatest hobby, for those of you returning. Myself, I never left. Have collected continuously since age 10 in 1960. I do take off couple months every year from "stamping," but even then, keep up my philatelic reading. |
